Morocco is spellbinding. The country is vast, diverse and its hidden gems are many. We’re not often travellers to join a guided tour, but our private 4WD excursion with Your Morocco Tour was exceptional; definitely worth spending extra for a personalised trip hosted by a knowledgeable Berber driver. Our gracious local host was Ali.
Should you be planning a trip, please allow yourself at least two weeks; the distances are far and there is so much to explore inland beyond bustling Marrakech and the imperial cities. I’m grateful we reached Marrakech toward the end of our trip, once we were comfortable with the culture and peculiarities; as men hustling for business in Marrakech can be somewhat overwhelming and irritating.
Our itinerary included (total 13 nights): travel via ferry from Gibraltar/Spain, tour pick up at Tangier Med Port – two nights Chefchaouen – visit to Meknes – two nights Fez with guided walking tour – drive through Middle Atlas Mountains to Erg Chebbi (Sahara Desert) – two nights Luxury Desert Camp – one night Todra Gorge in cave room – drive through Dades Gorge and one night homestay in a mud-brick village outside Ouarzazate – visit Ait BenHaddou Kasbah and Telouet – drive through High Atlas Mountains and two nights in Marrakech – tour ended and we travelled by bus to Essaouria for three nights – return overnight train from Marrakech to Tangier Med.
