VIDEO: our sailing visit of the Adriatic

by 3 Comments

Here it is… some highlights of our first four months in motion picture! We are still new to our Go Pro cameras (the slick HD HERO3 Black edition) but will be sure not to let several months of video pile up in future, making for a daunting editing process. Thanks to Mike for tackling the task. For anyone who has been living under a rock and is unfamiliar with these incredible little cameras – ... Continue Reading

One last dance with Croatia

It has been a few weeks since our last destination blog post from Vis and the Pakleni Islands off Hvar. In that time we’ve bid farewell to our beloved Croatia – who graciously introduced our family to the nomadic cruising lifestyle. We’ve also flirted with Montenegro (post to follow soon) and as I write, we’re in the midst of our first overnight passage (24 hour, 200km+) south to customs entry ... Continue Reading

Paradise found

My first souvenir purchase perfectly sums up our weekend romance with this captivating island located about 50 kilometres southwest off the coast of Split. Our friends Frank and Viv on Dominos had raved about Vis when we were berthed alongside them months ago. So whilst we hadn’t done much research before arriving, we knew we were in for a treat. I clearly remember the name “Tito” from modern ... Continue Reading

Sunny afternoons and stormy nights

Welcome to June! Already three months has passed since we adopted a new member into the family. How time flies when you’re having fun. Our last post came whilst berthed in ACI Marina Split, with an important list of trade work to be completed by the wealth of riggers, sail makers, electricians and chandleries surrounding the marina. What followed was primarily a maintenance week, hopping over to ... Continue Reading

Dalmatian delights

Our last destination report found us berthed in charming Mali Losinj’s central harbour. In the few weeks following that stop, we’ve anchored in several peaceful bays including Molat and Dugi Otok Islands, and we also lucked out with the weather for a stunning day to cruise by the rocky yet somehow mystical national park islands of Kornati. We stopped a night at Murter where the boat had been on ... Continue Reading

Mussels on the menu and camera-loving swans

Bringing you a quick post to share some tasty morsels on the menu yesterday as well as a friendly family of swans that blessed us with their company at our last anchorage. We’ve recently departed after two nights moored downstream from the breathtaking fairy-like land of cascades, waterfalls and boardwalks of Krka National Park. I have plenty of photos to share from the waterfalls so will take ... Continue Reading

Croatia continues to deliver around every corner

Since departing the concrete safety of Icici Marina, Rijeka and the European mainland, we’ve ventured back out to the islands and this week has blessed us with one magnificent seaside village after another. Apart from one windy, choppy day with a sail out, we’ve mostly been motoring in some exceptionally glassed out conditions where at times the eye could barely distinguish the ocean from the ... New additions

Perched on watch in the morning sunshine overlooking glassed out waters – I’m altering the autopilot a few degrees here and there as we motor along the towering cliffs of Krk Island’s eastern side. This serene morning must be a stark contrast to the weather often experienced in the Velebitski Canal. The canal is named after the steep 1,700 metre Velebit Mountain range positioned on the mid ... Trying on a new sail for size

We’ve covered some distance again this past 10 days or so. Though with target deadlines almost complete – now all outstanding is to take final possession of contents of the container in Rijeka. Thus finally allowing the pace to slow down a few notches to the leisurely cruiser lifestyle variety. After crossing back from Venice to the Croatian customs clearance port of Umag, we have jaunted in ... Continue Reading

Clocking up the nautical miles

Apologies for the time between posts, but we’ve been on the move and have covered some distance these past few weeks.  There’ve been a few hairy days – in my opinion as usual – with wind around 25-30 knots across the beam and waves up to two metres throwing occasional green water over the bow and spraying us in the face on the upper deck. Then a few days later, when rounding the Istria Peninsular, ... Continue Reading
