Whilst many 13-year-old boys are wasting hours with their noses buried in Minecraft, chasing girls in the school yard or grazing knees at soccer practise, our youngest crew member William was at sea; adding a three week, 3000 nautical mile Atlantic Ocean crossing to his life experience CV.
William joined us with his Dad Douglas, bringing our team up to five. Not only was he a valuable crew member; participating in watches, trimming sails, preparing meals, fishing, filming, editing and entertaining us with his witty humour, but having an under 16-year-old on board also entitled us to a significant discount on our entry fee to Cornell Sailing’s second annual Atlantic Odyssey.
The Atlantic Odyssey event – and other similar rallies around the world’s various sailing routes – are providing recreational cruisers with the confidence to tackle ocean crossings they’d not considered achievable and for live aboard sailboats to explore more corners of this incredible planet than ever before.
I’m pleased to present finally my darling’s February Atlantic Ocean crossing – torn sail delays and all – through the eyes of William. Thanks for the sweet video mate!
